White Lea Farm
In 2006 I started visiting the National Trust property at White Lea Farm near Easington on the Durham Heritage Coast. The area was once a major source of coal, but when the pits closed, both people and land were left in difficulty. A challenge that both people and land have risen to! The White Lea Farm property is now a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) for both it’s plant life and it’s geology with the farm and surrounding coastal area (including Horden Dene and Beacon Hill) owned and managed by the National Trust.
The purpose of my project is to photograph the coastline over 5 to 10 years to show the beauty and uniquness of the area, and also to document the changes due to tidal erosion. This is a project of time.
If you have ever been to White Lea Farm, or the Durham Heritage Coast, then drop me an email to tell me what you thought or send photos and I will post them. I would love to hear from you. And if you have never been, then I hope the photos will encourage you to visit. You can find more information at gonshoot or on google.

hi Mike,
a bit off topic but… You could’nt do us a small favour and mention that White Lea Farm is owned & managed by The National Trust - small point but so many people know NT for the “big posh houses” and dont appriciete how much coast & countryside we have that is free “for everyone for ever” as our strap line goes.
Great images though I do one or two panoramas myself but prefer the simplicity of an X-Pan, not quite pocketable but easy to take out and about!

Hey.. I was looking up Landscape photographers for my project at college. i’m 16 and I am very interested in your work. I’ve been trying to take some pictures of my own, which are coming along well, but I need to include some work from a photographer who specialises in the area that I am covering, so I was hoping you would let me use some of yours. Of course if thats not appropiate I wouldn’t but .. always nice to ask.
