Take a View Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition awards LowePro environment award
I’m delighted to announce that the Take a View Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition sponsored by LowePro, the AA and the Sunday Times has awarded me the LowePro Environment Award for my Miracle of Life, Loch Mallachie photograph.
(Award winning Miracle of Life, Loch Mallachie, Cairngorms, Scotland)
Part of my work is to promote the protection of our fragile open spaces, using stunning images, so I am very pleased to have won the Environment award in this competition - which was designed to be given to a photograph ‘reflecting the beauty of our precious natural environment’.
The Final judging panel which selected from 21 000 images was:
- Bill Bryson, best-selling Writer and CPRE’s President-designate
- Charlie Waite, Landscape photographer
- Ben Fogle, TV Presenter & Writer
- Janet Ibbotson, Managing Director of the Association of Photographers
- Keith Wilson, Founder and Editor of Outdoor Photography magazine
- John Langley, Manager of the National Theatre
- Monica Allende, The Sunday Times Magazine Picture Editor
- Liz Allen, AA Publishing
- Kerry Banner, LowePro
Kerry Banner, head of PR for Lowepro , said “ Just looking at the incredible standard of the entries - its clear that there are many talented photograhers out there who appreciate our inspiring landscape. Lowepro has always had a strong heritage of supporting conservation and environmental projects and we chose Mike’s image because we felt it captured perfectly the precious, pristine landscape we should all strive to protect. It also demonstrates Mike’s hard work and dedication to landscape photography - great images like this take a lot of commitment as well as technical skill.
“We can’t all be perfect all of the time, but even if its just switching off lights and recycling regularly we can all do our bit - its not to late. We wish Mike the very best with his future work - and hopefully by raising the profile of such excellent photography it will help encourage everyone to help protect and preserve our environment. “
As well as photography equipment from LowePro, Manfrotto and B&W, I have won the chance to see my photograph published in the first Landscape Photographer of the Year book, published by the AA. My photograph, along with the other winners’ stunning photographs, will also be on view at a six-week exhibition to be held at the National Theatre on London’s South Bank from 15 September until 3 November 2007.
If you would like to see this photograph then I will be taking part in the Christmas Art Tour at the Hearth at Horsley over the weekend of 30 November to 2 December and next year during exhibitions at Cornucopia in Hexham in June, Pebbles in Allendale during September, and the Queen’s Hall in Hexham also in September. Or you can visit galleries including the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle and the Courtyard Gallery in Appleby. Or visit my secure online shop to buy the limited edition print.
