Nottingham talk
Beeston Camera Club talk in the Nottingham Evening Post.
Former Member Revisits Camera Club
Is there life after Beeston? Well, former Beeston Camera Club member Mike McFarlane certainly thinks so after moving to the North East two years ago. Disenchanted with his former career in engineering, Mike decided to take his hobby one stage further by becoming a professional landscape photographer. The challenge of representing his great love of coastal scenery through the medium of his colour prints soon found Mike’s work in great demand, with a number of galleries displaying his photographs. Originally inspired by the work of Edward Weston, individual elements of the wider landscape are a feature of some of his work, sometimes depicted in an almost abstract style. However, the main thrust of Mike’s photography is the rugged scenery to be found in Northumberland and he will often spend hours waiting for exactly the right light to capture a scene as he wishes to depict it, sometimes in the most uncomfortable of circumstances. In his illustrated talk Mike engaged his audience in a discussion which encouraged them to consider their own personal style and approach to photography. Examples of Mike’s work can be viewed at his website http://www.mikemcfarlane.co.uk from which it can be seen that early morning starts are a regular feature of his life up North!
Beeston Camera Club exists so that people can get more out of their hobby in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. You don’t need to be an expert to join, but as a member you can be sure that your photography will improve, if only from the inspiration which comes from viewing the work of others. Meetings are at 8pm each Thursday at the Victory Club, Station Road, Beeston. See http://www.beestoncameraclub.co.uk for more information.
