I have just returned from a photo trip to
Uist and Barra on the Outer Hebrides in Scotland which was fantastic. Check out the gallery for my portfolio of photographs, some part of the story, some that I am really pleased with.

I travelled up there on the Oban ferry with my friend David Taylor. Neither of us are great sailors, but the dramatic light near Skye overcame any reservations we might have had about being on the ferry for nearly 6 hours.
The Outer Hebrides are very different from Skye and the Inner Hebrides. Whilst not quite a traditional way of life, the islands are very unspoilt with little traces of tourism, although we were very well looked after - Scottish hospitality.
We stayed at the
Clan Ranald guesthouse. Oddly, Mrs MacDonald was unwell so we had the house to ourselves and her sisters came in to look after us and cook wonderful breakfasts for us. The
Salar salmon is particular is superb. This worked out really well as we didn't have to worry about making any noise at 4am as we left for a sunrise shoot.
I got a lot more out of the trip than good food though. The mixed weather forced us to make photographs in a variety of weather conditions, which is not normally my thing, I like the golden light, usually to the exclusion of everything else. However, the delicate soft light coupled with the softest pastel colours of the landscape gave us some stunning conditions for detail photography and also allowed me to explore monochrome ideas in a way that I never had before.
Anyway, enough wittering, make your way over to the Gallery if you would like to see the results.
