I’m going to hang this on the wall!, Derwentwater, Borrowdale, Lake District, Cumbria, England
Our memories of the same event can be very different. For the young couple enjoying champagne and a picnic as the sun went down on Derwentwater, it was about being together on holiday. One of their photographs, of the many they were taking, was going to go onto canvas in their new home, a reminder of a great trip away together. For the solitary landscape photographer, no hand to hold, but other experiences. A few hours earlier I had been climbing the waterfall at the Lodore Falls. No, not the path up the side, I was climbing the boulders of the falls, admiring the mossy walls and the water carved funnels. And at conversation distance, what comes past, but a large sleek otter! Ignoring me, it carries on climbing the falls past me. What a treat. What a highlight to any day. And who knows, maybe this photograph will end up on someone’s wall too.
