Black water 3
23rd March 2008
The black water series are from the burn which runs through my garden. They are actually all colour photographs of the water, which appears to black due to the overhanging trees and also haven’t been modified. These images are taken from the bank looking down into the water- from at least a few feet above. There is so much foliage above the river that the sky is obscured, and there are also stone walls built along the bank so that the water is contained and is dark. Black Water 4 is also taken in low light, without a tripod and so gives it a grainy feel. I particularly like the illusion of smoke in this picture, or how the water looks like damaged tissue.
“Inspiration for the work: my own fascination with water, its constant state of change; free but also constrained within a rhythmical boundary of the river itself. “
